May Day
Collection
Identifier: UA-10
Scope and Contents
The first May Crowning was held at Mercyhurst in 1931. The May Crowning was one of the graduation celebrations held along with a visit from the Bishop, special dinner, and Charter Day. The annual event was held in the grotto and later moved to the front of the campus. Many parents and residents of Erie would come to the celebration. The last May Crowning was held in 1968 at the request of the students who thought it was an outdated activity.
